What's changed

• Uninstalling keeps Windows' thumbnail cache unless you ask. Since 3.0.5 the uninstaller cleared the whole cache at the next restart - every thumbnail on the machine, not only the ones SageThumbs drew - and did so without asking, on unattended removals too. It now asks: a box on the uninstall dialog, unticked by default, resets the cache; leaving it unticked keeps everything as it is (thumbnails SageThumbs drew stay until those files change, and Windows' Disk Cleanup can clear them any time). Unattended uninstalls never touch the cache; add /RESETTHUMBCACHE to the uninstall command to opt in.
• Adobe Illustrator files saved without "Create PDF Compatible File" no longer show a blank page. Such a file's PDF half is only a page of small print saying it was saved without PDF content, and that page is what showed as a white tile with unreadable text. Files from Illustrator CS4 and earlier carry a small picture of the artwork inside, and that is shown now. Files from Illustrator 2020 and later carry no picture at all, so they get the Illustrator icon instead, and st2k doctor says exactly why and how to re-save. Files saved with the option ticked are unchanged. Reported in #45.
• Photoshop EPS files saved with "Preview: None" now thumbnail. Photoshop writes its embedded thumbnail with a marker spelled one way and SageThumbs looked for another; the first real such file showed the mismatch.
• An Illustrator file with several artboards shows them all. Up to four artboards are laid out in one tile, the way a comic archive shows its first pages, instead of the first artboard alone. Ordinary PDFs still show their first page. Requested in #44.
• Settings, and every other SageThumbs window, no longer looks patchy in light mode. The window behind the controls was painted a slightly different grey from the controls themselves, so each row, each label and the sidebar showed as a faint lighter block: obvious on some displays and Windows themes, nearly invisible on others. Every window now uses one background colour. Dark mode was not affected.
• A greyed-out text box or drop-down in Settings now looks like one greyed-out field, not a grey slab inside a white outline, and the "Never preview these extensions:" caption greys with its box while Quick preview is off.
• The licence-key box on the Licence page gets the same rounded frame as every other field. It was a bare white strip beside a rounded button.
• The hotkey service's status line on the Screenshots page ("Running", "Stopped") is now translated in all 36 languages; it was English everywhere.
• Strip metadata no longer damages two kinds of file. An SVG whose metadata quoted a closing tag inside a CDATA block or a comment was cut short and saved malformed; it is now handled correctly, and a rewrite that would not be valid XML is refused instead of saved. A photo that relied on its EXIF rotation came out sideways after stripping; the rotation tag, and nothing else, is now kept.
• Convert, Resize and Strip can no longer overwrite another file through their temporary file. The temporary name was predictable; it is now unique and never reuses a file that already exists.
• Screenshot "Save as" can no longer wipe the file it was saving over. Choosing a name ending in .jpg emptied an existing picture and then reported a failure; the save now writes a PNG to a temporary file first and only then replaces the destination, and the dialog keeps the .png extension.
• Quick Convert and Resize from the right-click menu now honour "Keep metadata", as the Convert dialog always did. Shrink for email still produces a clean file.
• Scitex .sct files convert and copy, not only thumbnail.
• Signing in to settings sync and then pressing Save no longer overwrites the settings that were just pulled from your account with what was on screen before.
• Reset all settings now matches a fresh install (comic-cover credit skipping stays on).
• Portable copies keep folder names containing #, ;, brackets or =. A screenshot folder like D:\Screenshots #2026 was silently shortened to D:\Screenshots, and exporting then importing settings dropped such values entirely.
• Set as folder icon keeps the folder's existing desktop.ini details when that file cannot be read at that moment, instead of replacing them.
• Set as lock screen no longer replaces the picture your desktop wallpaper uses.
• A mistake in a custom screenshot upload host now stops the upload with an explanation instead of quietly sending the file to the public default hosts.
• st2k batch reports an input that does not exist as a failure instead of leaving it out of the totals.
• st2k doctor no longer says HEIC/HEIF keep their default icon when the HEVC extension is missing on a Full install: the bundled decoder handles them, more slowly.
• Stability: two animation/sprite formats (SPLA, Aseprite) can no longer make Explorer hold hundreds of megabytes for one tile, and the preview pane cleans up after itself when its DLL unloads.
• Sign-in and settings sync moved to Connections' new permanent address (accounts.connectionsapi.com / studio.connectionsapi.com); the previous domain was suspended by its registry on 18 September. Existing sign-ins carry over. The "Move my licence" and sign-in links now go through a LunarWerx redirect, like Buy already did, so a future address change never needs an update.

Portable: unzip and run, nothing is installed. st2k register (or Settings, Advanced) turns on Explorer thumbnails and the classic right-click menu for your account; only the preview pane, the Details pane and the Windows 11 compact menu still need the installer. SageThumbs2K-Setup-3.2.0-amd64.exe is the x64 installer again, under the name copies older than 1.3.6 look for; download the plain one.
